10 February

As fascism is happening in the US, I am feeling a little guilty in Panama, but this is my time to figure out my life.

A bus ride and a wet hike up the waterfall trail to 2 amazing cascadas but not too many animals in this forest today. The air is a mist so heavy that it is really rain. The cloud forest.

Kind of rough going on the slick wet trail. I don't know how I would have made it without a pole.

Here's a fiddlehead that is about one foot in diameter.

Not many animals but beautiful flowers.

The second waterfall. The yellow trumpet flowers in the back are everywhere.

This was a very slick suspension bridge at the beginning and end of hike. I had a minor fall at the end on the slippery chain plate (wasn't using my stick)

Back in town, there are the indigenous pickers all around. They speak their own language (sometimes a little Spanish) and the families come to pick coffee and strawberries. At the coffee plantations, there are rudimentary shacks where they live when they work.

There is a big wedding party coming to socia/tel so I must move up the hill to Villa Alejandro. Much quieter and very clean. All guests must remove their shoes and put on slippers to enter.

The full moon in Boquete is amazing shining through the mist and mountains. I am questioning my hike of 10 to 12 hours a day, watching every step and having knee pain. I came to figure out my future so I want time to read, think, and write. I love a 2 or 3 hour hike and I might also want to raft, dive, kayak and absorb the Tico (Costa Rican) culture. More to come.

How far north will you go? I recommend The Fish that Ate the Whale by Rich Cohen about bananas. Your side lost and will keep losing. What will happen to Me. if Canada retaliates by cutting off power? You rely on them too much. I will never again visit a poor country or neighborhood. Have had it with poor people. Why is the river not the border between CR and Nicaragua? Another good book is Gangsters of Capitalism by Jonathan Katz.

Captain Mojo,

Heather says you look happy. That’s important.

1-3 hours of cardio is all we need. Not even every day.

Seek out a hot spring and a massage therapist. Plunging and swimming are

important. Yoga is great. Replace some

of the hiking with napping, cloud and star gazing, meditation, reading and writing. Ubers are allowed on the journey. I love Dr. Weil’s breathing exercises especial the 4-7-8. Rafting, diving, and kayaking are terrific. Jam with the locals. Complete relaxation and joy are the destinations.

Hugs,

Dr. Bruno
